On Sunday evening, Brett and I had the privilege of attending “The Awakening,” a campus-wide worship and prayer night at the University of Maryland inside the Chapel.  Along with 300+ attendees from various Christian organizations on campus, UMD students from Covenant Life joined together to share in the time of worship, confession, prayer, and scripture readings.  Though not a college student quite yet, Brett was asked to play piano for the event…and though I am OUT of college, I figured it would be fun to return to my alma-mater (sp?!) and hang with the College Park gang.  The pews were filled with students!  New believers, long-time believers, and unbelievers.  It is neat to think that God is using these guys and girls to spread His love and Gospel to their peers who are lonely, hurting, lost, and trapped in their sinful ways.  I even got to share a word of encouragement from 1 Peter about being “a people of God’s own possession” with the students, which was a surprise to me, because I wasn’t expecting the Spirit to lay that particular passage on my heart.  But, it was cool to step out in faith and allow the Lord to lead me…I always am amazed at the power of the Word of God.  Brett, of course, was in his element–it is fun to watch him use his gifts with such passion and enthusiasm…who knows?  Maybe he’ll be in a Terp in the end.
