Surprise!

Dear Family and Friends,

I have some exciting and perhaps a bit surprising news for you.

On August 14, 2009, I will be taking a “leap of faith” into Kenya for 11 months.

Yes, you read that correctly.  Lord willing, I am moving to Africa!

Last Wednesday, I was officially accepted to become a staff member of the Rift Valley Academy (www.rva.org), which is the largest and oldest Christian boarding school in all of Africa.

RVA is dear to my heart already, as I was supposed to go there in January 2008 right after my two week missions trip to Uganda to visit my relatives, Paul and Carolyn Koning.  Because of the political unrest at the time, I had to change my itinerary and avoid flying into Nairobi.  I suppose I always knew that I wanted to go back to RVA someday–I just never would have guessed that it would be so soon…but, here I am, and God has opened this door, and now I am not just going for a visit.  I am re-locating my life and career path and leaving Gaithersburg, MD after 23 years to be a “Dorm Mother” to high-school girls.  A Dorm Mother is one who basically serves as the “Mother Hen” to her chicks, because their parents are either serving on the medical mission field, or, are “in the bush” doing Christian ministry.

See my other page, “Emily @ RVA,” for more information!
