Bread Day

Today’s Baking: Carbs!

High-protein multi-grain bread. Breadsticks. Popcorn. Baked beans.

Can anyone ever get enough carbs? 🙂

Tonight is our Dorm Party for First Term. I decided to make Breadsticks for the girls. One is Garlic and Salt, and the other is Cinnamon-Sugar with dipping icing. It is 1pm, and I haven’t yet gotten to the Marinara sauce, but I am hoping to make some if I have time this afternoon…despite the fact that most activities here seem to revolve around EATING (isn’t food just wonderful?), I have also planned for the girls to have Craft Time and make gigantic letters to spell the world THRIVE, to be hung in our Dorm Lounge.

Breadsticks

Why THRIVE?

This is one of our school-wide theme ideas for first term: “Survive or Thrive? ” I must admit…I feel like this theme should have been created for the RVA staff, not just the students! But, really, it’s a great theme and one that I think will help the girls focus on what’s most important. After we make the big letters, I am going to have each one write what they want their “T” and “H” and “R” etc. etc. to represent for them…sort of like an Acrostic Poem.

After our craft, I think I’m going to turn on a fun chick-flick, and I have Popcorn ready to go…

First Loaf of Bread

This beautiful, sesame, multi-grain wheat bread is just for personal eating and enjoyment…but I would just like to say, I feel pretty darn proud of it! My first homemade bread in Kenya! Wahoo ☺ I just had the first slice with some honey, and it’s delicious…good thing I’m going running this afternoon…I’ve been picking at the breadsticks all morning, too.

Emily & Emily

And then Emily, pictured here with me, has been also helping me make popcorn and cook down some beans after soaking them for a couple of hours. I couldn’t do all this without her, and she is becoming a real source of encouragement and hope to me. This morning, I broke down crying in the kitchen over some various struggles, and Emily graciously pointed me to the Lord and towards prayer. I am so thankful to God for her friendship and service.

Nap-time…
