All Quiet on the Western Front

Well, I’ve been here in Phoenix since Monday night, and still no baby.  Nora and Travis went to the doctor yesterday, and she is still 5 cm dialated, and having moderately steady contractions.  So, they are going back tomorrow for a sonogram, and will decided where to go from there.  Of course, I selfishly don’t mind so much 🙂  I’m having a blast just being with them. Besides, Nora is absolutely adorable, and looks pretty awesome for being PAST her due date.  But, for her sake, I am praying that this little one comes out soon.  The Arizona heat is not exactly condusive to relaxing outside and enjoying a nice summer breeze.

Meanwhile, Mom, Nora and I have been literally just hanging out: swimming, eating things we probably shouldn’t be eating, watching movies, walking outside in the early morning hours, reading, taking naps, grocery shopping, being surprised by the sudden rain yesterday, and playing Scrabble.  Yesterday we had a humorous moment when Mom used the word “ponzi” in her play.  It wasn’t until about 6 rounds later that someone was trying to pluralize “ponzi” into “ponzis” that we decided to actually look it up in the dictionary.  This quickly turned into a bout of laughter: “ponzi” is NOT an official Scrabble word because it is a proper noun and must be capitalized.  The ironic part about it is that the definition is actually only given in the context of the phrase, “Ponzi scheme”: an investment swindle in which high profits are promised from fictitious sources and early investors are paid off with funds that are raised from later ones.”  Oh, Mom.  Desperately trying to swindle a fake word into her turn!  I started calling her Suzie Ponzi–so suave and slick with her secretive trickery.  We all burst out laughing, and it definitely made our day.  I think we’re all a bit on edge, wondering if Nora’s water is going to break at any moment, so it was nice to have some comic relief.

This morning I enjoyed a 45 min. bike ride around Las Sendas mountains, and Mom is doing a Pilates video as I write this.  Nora is being domestic and nesting.  I guess we are all going to get dressed at some point this morning, and head off to do a bit of shopping in Scottsdale and eating (again).

Today, I am grateful for God’s love, and the objective reality of my life in Christ.  As I was praying this morning, my heart filled with gratefulness at the thought that God’s love for us is so incredibly deeper and wider than we can imagine.  And the fact is, that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine.  So, whether it be with this baby, or my new job starting next month, or a future for which I hope and the provision to match it, God IS faithful and trustworthy and generous.  His box for my life is so much bigger than I can comprehend, and it is by faith in His love shown for me at the Cross of Christ that I can believe that “He who did not spare His own Son, but freely gave Him for us all, how will He not also, along with Christ, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8).
