Play on Words

Today, I was sitting in Starbucks with my friend drinking a decaf, extra-hot Mocha, and had a couple fun moments where certain language and vocabulary leapt out of my tongue, and I was sort of shocked at where it came from…has that ever happened you to?  You use a word, but you’re not sure it IS a word, but somehow it just sounds right in the context of your sentence or conversation?

The first moment of, shall we say, grammatical instinct, was when I said I randomly used the word “piddle.”  My friend laughed and said, ‘Em, come on…is that really a word?’  But, when I got home and looked it up, it is a valid word! It means, “To use triflingly; squander.”  Notes to self: Don’t piddle away the time that I have in each day, because making the most of every opportunity is invaluable; piddling with people’s hearts and feelings is not a very nice thing to do.  In this current economic situation our country is facing, I am hoping that I learn how to not piddle my money away so easily on trifle purchases and impulsive buys.

The second moment of intuition was when I used the phrase, “Cool Beans.”  Five seconds later, I said, “Hey!  Wouldn’t it be so awesome to open a coffee shop and call it “Cool Beans”?!  Get it 🙂  Coffee Beans + Cool Hang Out place.  I like the pun.  I like the play on words.
