I finally figured out that my Flash Uploader was the problem 🙂 I think uploading pictures will be a bit easier from now on 🙂
This was the evening sunset from my front walk way…I was on my way over to share dinner with all the single guys and gals of RVA, and as I was walking past it, I almost had to catch my breath at its beauty. When the clouds clear, you can see the miniscule details of the view, and it is fantastic.
The last few days have been quite nice. Yesterday, Mike and Kim Saum graciously drove me down to Lower Station to pick up a desk from a young OBGYN who works at Kijabe hospital. She read in the “Kijabe Wind” e-mail newsletter that I was in need of a desk, and she had an extra one sitting on her back porch that she wasn’t using 🙂 It’s amazing to watch how God provides in even the little things. Mike and Kim are quickly becoming good friends. There is no way to describe Kim other than by saying she reminds me entirely of Reese Witherspoon. Mike, as I mentioned before, works in Nairobi with a Video/Communications team and crew, and Kim teaches at the RVA elementary school. They have two small children, and are from Texas. We have already discussed FOOD and that we want to plan a Korean dinner out in Nairobi sometime this term. They have even mentioned that I might be able to go with them on a Sarafi during December vacation!
I have also been enjoying getting to know Todd and Kylie Dubber. They are Canadian, and I report to Kylie for dorm parenting things. Todd is very skilled wood-worker craftsman, and Kylie’s house looks like Pottery Barn + Ikea as a result of his handiwork 🙂 Last night was Game Night at their place: Apples to Apples and Speed Scrabble. Very fun!
Today there were no meetings to attend…lots of RVA folks jetted off to Nairobi to do last minute shopping, because tomorrow is New Parent Orientation and Arrival Day for the parents and students! It is going to be a lot of fun meeting my girls and their families…my welcome sign is up, my Announcements board is cute and ready, copies are made, and name tags with little goody bags are attached to each door. It will be neat to see the faces of those I have been praying for these past few weeks. So, today was spent mostly in the kitchen with Emily. Emily’s first day was today, and we had a great time together. She mostly did cleaning for me, cause my Oven is still broken, but we managed to sit down for our “Chai break” and I got to hear her testimony, which was powerful and sobering. She almost brought me to tears, not only because of some of the hardships she has endured, but her faith amidst these difficulties. Here she was, speaking truth that my ears needed to hear! I am looking forward to the fellowship we will continue to share.
In the past two days, I have also made fresh Lemonade, some iced Coffee, cut up fresh Mango chunks for smoothies, made some chocolate sauce for next weekend’s Ice Cream Social, and….dum-da-dum….attempted homemade yogurt, which actually seemed to turn out! We’ll see how it tastes in the morning 🙂 It was a super easy recipe from the “More with Less” cookbook.
What part of Canada are your Canadian friends from? Have they heard of Anne of Green Gables 😉 hee hee.
