A Story for my Phoenix Friends

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Emily who loved playing sports.  Basketball, soccer, swimming, you name it.  She would play it.  Of course, except one sport that was too slow, too boring, too expensive.  Yep, you guessed it.  GOLF.  For the life of her, she could not understand why anyone would want to spend four hours on a weekend afternoon either watching a tournament or going out and playing at a country club.

When Emily reached her 20’s, it just so happened that her Dad and brothers fell in love with golf.  It was as if they had been swept off their feet into golf heaven: the clubs were purchased and filled up the car trunks; the tees suddenly became traceable all over the house; and weekend conversations quickly became passionate with this Birdie or that Bogie. But, Emily couldn’t quite jump on board.  The only thing she could see herself doing was driving around in the golf cart wearing a cute golf outfit and visor.

Then, something changed.  As family nights at home were replaced with family nights out at the driving range, and the competition became a bit more intense, Emily just couldn’t resist anymore.  She simply HAD to enter into all the joy, fun, competition, and challenges of learning how to play Golf!  Besides, a goal had already been set into the calendar: playing 9 holes with all of her Phoenix family and friends–Nora and Travis and the Nams–over Thanksgiving break in November.

So, in order to prepare for this, I suppose you could say that Emily went on her first real date with golf this weekend.  A family friend who is a golf expert graciously offered to give Emily lessons in exchange for her giving piano lessons to Steve’s daughter, Stephanie.  Though she was a bit nervous, Emily showed up to her lesson excited to improve her game.  At the end of the hour, she came away with some great tips and specific ways to progress.

To “top it” all off (no pun intended!), Emily got “Craig,” the online local sales expert, to help her find an amazing deal on left-handed women’s clubs.  For only $75, Emily was able to get a brand-new set of GPS Aspire clubs that a lady only used 3 times.  It included everything–the irons, the woods, the putter, the wedge, the tripod stand, the tees, the balls…of course, Emily had to admit that she didn’t exactly know what the purpose of certain pieces were, but she was determined to find out in the days ahead.

The day after her lesson, she was already out practicing her swing!  So, watch out Phoenix family and friends!  Emily is getting ready to compete 🙂

The End.
