Dear friends,
Meet Hannah Siegrist of Pennsylvania.
Childhood friend. Amazing photographer. Missionary to Masiphumelele, South Africa.
Hannah is working with YWAM for a year in this local community.
Hannah moved to South Africa just last month, and while her internet connectivity is limited, she recently e-mailed me with some heartbreaking details of what she has discovered upon her arrival.
“Before leaving, the Lord was speaking specifically to me about the girls in Masi and just disciplining them in purity. Well, little did i know how crazy this problem is here. It’s totally normal for a 12 or 13 year old to be sleeping around. On the weekends the thing to do is drink and sleep around… . there aren’t any brothels or anything of that sort of thing in Masi cause most every girl is willing to do it for money cause there is no work.
One of the girls that i have gotten close with, Naru, is 21 years old. She has a 4 year old and then twin babies. She is the key to reaching these girls cause she knows basically everyone. Just today she was telling me that she has friends that will still put their babies in trash bags and just through them away. Abortions are also free here, or a lot of the time the girls will just drink bleach to do it themselves.
There is such an urgency in my heart for these girls. So much of it starts with relationships… which is basically all we have been doing this week. We are partnering with Naru and doing a girls club… hopefully 3 days a week, and then the off days just hangout with them individually. But, right now we are just starting with Friday afternoon and evenings.
If you could all be praying for me, the girls, the team, purity…and just for crazy open doors that would be amazing! Also as I mentioned before I am starting ( hopefully next week) a project on getting more sponsors for child headed homes in Masi. There is seriously so much to do in this place!”
As is obvious from her e-mail to me, Hannah has such a huge heart for these girls. And, I am confident that the Lord is going to use her mightily in the next year to have an impact on their lives through the power of the Gospel!
But, she needs your help. As far as finances go, Hannah is in need of more monthly supporters and/or one-time gifts.
